<text><span class="style3"></span><span class="style7"> PROFESSOR – X</span><span class="style3"> </span><span class="style8">“THE CURE TO ALL OF YOUR MENTAL AILMENTS”</span><span class="style3"></span><span class="style9"> By the man too lazy to learn a real Macintosh programming language.</span><span class="style3"> Hold the option key down to stop the text from scrolling </span><span class="style4"> Professor X is a program that I, Karl Thomas, sweated and slaved over for a year. It is mildly based on the famous Eliza program created by Dr. Weizenbahm in the 60's. After using Eliza for a while I found that the program had a view easily correctable problems. Chief among these were too view phrases, incorrect handling of some personal pronouns, and incorrect responses to some keywords. All these problems were supposedly corrected in my program. The first version of this program was made using GW-BASIC on MS-DOS machines. This version included three separated personalities: the normal Professor X, a smart aleck Professor X, and a social philospher. This version is not available for public consumption because frankly, I'm too embarassed about it. So after suffering through programming sessions on MS-DOS machines, I decided to make an Apple // version (compatible with 128K Apple //e,//c,//c+,//gs,and Mac LC w/IIe card). This version has most of the same responses and includes a voice-synthesis program I found in the public domain to allow the Apple //e to speak. This program is the only program that I know of that let's an 8-bit Apple speak without hardware add-ons.
